Programmers Should Learn How to Learn
In such a rapidly changing world, learning how to learn is a meta-skill that goes a long way
We live in a rapidly changing world. In this changing world, the most rapidly changing sectors are, of course, the digital sectors. As a result, people who are producers in digital sectors need to develop and change themselves at the same pace.
Among the digital producers, the biggest group of people that have to improve themselves is software developers. In other words, software developers are one of the professional groups that have to constantly improve themselves in the world.
The fact that software developers are entering these continuous learning cycles reminds me of real scientists. Real scientists learn new things every day and try to come up with these new things, just like software engineers. Software engineers can also be tried by modern scientists. After all, they work on the causality principle like other scientists.
The biggest reason why I personally love software development is that software development forces me to learn new things all the time but learning new things is not that easy.
But learning new things is not easy at all. (Especially considering there is a limited amount of time.) When learning new things to realize a project, those newly learned things must be learned really well in order for the quality of the project to be good or high. Of course, at the same time, this learning period should be as short as possible so that the project can be reached on time.
I think a software developer really needs to learn to learn in order to do what I described in the last paragraph in the best way possible. For this, software developers need to know how they learn. For example, some people learn best from reading a book. Others can learn more efficiently by watching video courses.
The scientific method is one of the best guides for a software developer to actually learn a subject and apply it in real life. After all, we can measure whether we really know something or not by the scientific method.
