When a company advertises for a "Full-Stack" developer position, what they really want tends to be a Backend Developer who knows just enough HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to make the Frontend not look like total sh*t.

Great article but let me be the first to say it. You are wrong.

I have 25 years worth of experience and worked in many places where full stack is required. I expect my engineers to build all aspects of a feature. Granted, we are not UX designers…

It's because people keep changing the job titles. Full stack engineers used to be all engineers several years ago until the roles were broken up even more and delegated.
There was no front and back end. Engineers used to build the whole thing. Prototype to market.
