Farewell, Better Programming
I’ll be moving on from my editor position but don’t worry, BP is still in great hands
Hey everyone,
I wanted to post a short note saying goodbye as I’m moving on from my post as the editor of Better Programming.
As you may be aware, my wife and I welcomed a daughter in late January and Anupam Chugh took over as the interim editor while I took paternity leave. I fully intended to come back but — as overused as it is — having a kid really does bring on a new mindset and a new outlook on life.
Through many sleepless nights, I started asking myself a lot of hard questions, mainly, where did I want to focus my time and energy? I really miss building and shipping software.
That led me to the difficult decision to step down from Better Programming.
Fear not, dear reader! Better Programming will continue on in the more than capable hands of its co-founder Tony Stubblebine and Anupam Chugh.
As for what’s next for me, I’m doing some contract work, learning Solidity, exploring the endless rabbit hole that is Ethereum, and exploring a few ideas of my own, namely Arch OS, a tool to help you focus and not be so distracted all the time.
Building Better Programming from 0 to 5.5M+ pageviews a month has been one of the proudest accomplishments of my career. Our team does amazing work and will continue to do so. I’ve loved working with the 3,000+ authors that I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and interacting with on here. I’ve appreciated every person who’s said that they just referenced a BP story for some work they were doing. Better Programming ranks right up there with StackOverflow for hundreds of different Google searches. It’s been a fantastic run.
Thanks to Tony for asking me to go on this adventure with him. Thanks to Medium for their support. Thank you again to all of the authors that trust their work to be published with us. Thanks to Niklas Göke, Terrie Schweitzer, Brittany Jezouit, Connor Montgomery, and all of our editors for being such fantastic teammates!
My email is zack [at] zackshapiro [dot] com if you want to get in touch.
Take care,
ZS
