Are You Interviewing for a Senior Position? Don’t Try To Show You Know Everything

Having an interview for a new job, especially after not doing it for a while, can be a pretty daunting experiencing. People will be observing your moves and testing how you react to the challenges that you’re proposed. Sometimes we are so nervous that we forget the essential points.

What Is a “Senior” After All?

First of all, I need to make a statement. My experience is around technology and software development. However, I believe most of the advice in this article will fit most areas of work.

When you read that someone is a “Senior <<insert specialization here>>,” what image do you picture in your head? Maybe a specialist in that specific field.

But is it all that you expect from a senior?

There is no doubt that a senior needs to be an expert in whatever they do, but I believe that the responsibility doesn’t end here. They need to have communication, coaching, and mentoring skills. To provide a well-thought-out opinion on several different subjects and help to make decisions. They need to be humble and open to learning. Nobody expects you to know it all.
